The clinical and academic work of Assoc. Prof. Mehmet Sürmeli focuses on dizziness (vertigo) and balance disorders. His main interests are the objective assessment of the vestibular system (the balance organ of the inner ear and its connections with the brain) and diagnosis-oriented treatment planning. He also treats nasal, sinus and voice disorders and performs functional and aesthetic nasal surgery.

Academic Work
He has authored numerous articles in international and national peer-reviewed journals, as well as book chapters and conference presentations. His research focuses mainly on balance assessment with the video head impulse test (vHIT) and vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMP), vestibular migraine, bilateral vestibulopathy, Ménière's disease, vestibular findings in multiple sclerosis and in childhood, and voice disorders.
He is one of the editors of vestibology.com, a platform dedicated to balance disorders.
